No More Dreaming of a White Xmas
I’m looking out my office window watching the snow cascade. It’s been like this since dawn. There must be two feet of new on my trampoline. Oops I forgot to put the canvas away. ah well.
Today was better than yesterday; tomorrow will be epic. Snowbasin opened Friday and Alta debuted their new Collins quad for Thanksgiving. Why did I miss that quintessential opening? I went to Moab of all places. My boyfriend’s parents came to town from Mass. and wanted to see the outskirts of our fair state. Moab it was. And then I proceed to turn my ankle on the hike to Delicate Arch. Super Bummer. On a postive note, it could have been another body part. At least I can still ski since a ski boot is a virtual cast. It held up well yesterday as I made some untracked turns on Christmas tree in Alta with Fox13’s Weather Geek (and my good friend 🙂 ) Steve Baron. We spent the afternoon in search of freshies but found mostly tracked out fluff bumps. The Thanksgiving crowd spared no trail. But even with the packed parking lot and slopes the longest wait was about five minutes at Collins. The new quad is a phenomenal improvement. The upper half runs the same course as the old Germania lift so you forget you’re riding a new chair. But with a combined time that equals less than either the old Collins or Germ alone, you are happy to run top to bottom every time.
Today (Sat.), I rested; tomorrow, I hit the Bird with Ryan and my old college bud Stephen.
I’m counting on the swelling of my ankle to decrease so I can keep up. With 10″ new reported in LCC this afternoon, skiing will be chest deep and all smiles. Will let you know!
